Applications for the 2018 program will open May 1st, 2018
Absolutely! We actually prefer students with no prior experience. We will teach you the fundamentals of programming and using the command line. There will be experienced mentors to help guide you throughout the program.
Nope! We encourage students from all majors to apply!
This year we plan to admit 20-24 incoming freshmen.
August 25 - August 30, 2019. This is the week before classes start, so CS KickStart will not interfere with your semester schedule.
Please note that full participation is expected of everyone who attends. During the camp students will:
Participants move into their school-year residence halls when they arrive on Sunday, August 25th. That means attendees will move into their dorm rooms a few days earlier than the rest of the incoming students. Regular move-in for the academic year will start on Wednesday, August 28th. Participants will not have to move a second time.
Thanks to our generous industry sponsors, the College of Engineering, and the EECS department at UMich, the program really is free. Your room and board for the week of the program are included. You are responsible for any costs associated with transporting yourself and your belongings to the University. Included in the program with no additional cost to you are:
Not included are:
Probably not. We expect full participation in all our program's activites throughout the week, as even missing a half of a day means missing a substantial amount. We have put in a lot of effort to keep the program free, and all we ask from participants is that they attend the entire program.
You will eat some meals at the dining halls. Please see the UMich Dining Services site for information about what we can accomodate. Some other meals will be catered in by local Ann Arbor restaurants. We will try to accomdate dietary restrictions as best as we can in these situations.
Definitely apply, but email us so we can figure out logistics!
While our program's mission is to encourage more female students to study computer science by giving them confidence, inspiration, and support, you do not need to be female to apply. Incoming UofM first-year students of any gender identity are welcome to apply, and we review applications without looking at the applicant's gender.
Consider checking out some of our great student organizations during the semester, like MSAIL, the Michigan Data Science Team (MDST), the Michigan Embedded Systems Hub (MESH), and Michigan Hackers, all of which teach various computer science and engineering topics throughout the school year.
Short answer, no. There are too many conflicts with the orientation for MLC's that interefere with CS KickStart. Full particiaption in CS KickStart's activties is required for acceptance to our program
